WASTE LAW

Waste Law in Austria

Waste law plays a central role in both European and national environmental legislation. Comprehensive European and Austrian legal frameworks aim to ensure sustainable resource use and the creation of a circular economy wherever possible, while also preventing environmental harm caused by uncontrolled treatment and storage of waste.

The Federal Waste Management Act 2002 regulates the definition of waste, the classification of waste, treatment obligations, the required records, the authorisation of treatment facilities and the issuing of treatment orders by the authorities. Of increasing importance are the provisions on extended producer responsibility, which make producers responsible for the environmental impact of their products over the entire life cycle, including the disposal phase (e.g. packaging, end-of-life vehicles, waste electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, single-use deposits).

What we do: We advise you on all legal issues relating to the avoidance, utilisation, disposal and transfer of waste. From the preparation of expert opinions on the classification of materials and substances under waste law, to the management of licences for waste treatment plants, to advice and representation of collection and recycling systems. We know waste law like the back of our hand.
