Standards Law in Austria

Standards – such as ÖNORM standards, ÖVGW technical rules, or the specifications of CEN and CENELEC – ensure uniform benchmarks across the EU and are thus an essential prerequisite for a functioning internal market. Although they are generally not legally binding in Austria, they serve in practice – and in case law – as an important indicator of quality, safety, and fair competition.
